ACOLYTES

Our acolytes can be any age, but frequently they are young people in the congregation. The acolytes light the candles before service, carry the torches and cross during the procession and recession, assist at the reading of the Gospel and at the altar for communion.

The parishioners at Good Shepherd truly appreciate the service and the dedication of our young acolytes who serve at the altar each week. While we usually think of acolytes as the youth of a parish, we should remember that anyone of any age can serve in this necessary capacity.

To become an ‘adult acolyte,’ speak with Fr. Hugh or Mark Worthington following any 10:30 Eucharist this month. Whether you were an acolyte in your youth or you’ve never done it before, it could be the perfect way for you to help at the altar!

Acolytes learn their skills at quarterly training sessions or "on the job" -- by working with more experienced acolytes.

CHALICE BEARERS

Special training is required to assist the celebrant in serving communion, and that training is available at least twice a year -- more frequently as needed. Chalice bearers are also responsible for the Prayers of the People.

READERS/LECTORS

Vicki Steele and Richard Taylor schedule those who will read the Old and New Testament readings during both the 8 a.m. service (Rite I) and the 10:30 a.m. service (Rite II). Watch this site for monthly schedules of readers, and contact Vicki or Richard if you'd like to join those who serve in this way. Training is also available for those who wish it.

USHERS

Ushers and greeters are needed at both services each Sunday. Matt Steele and Fred Brinkman maintain the schedule for the services. Ushers will help parishioners with name tags -- now available in the Narthex.
